One, and One More

By: Dan Thomas

“We are all one” . . . it has become a common phrase. With the acceleration of our consciousness and the resurgence of spirituality that has been and continues to occur within society, the awareness of this profound point has become integral to our understandings. Unity, through this awareness of the illusion of our divisions, continues to break false barriers with the revitalized quality of compassion. Each of us is a part of the whole, and each part effects the whole. This fundamental bond of humanity, with its incredibly deep and searching implications, leads to a broader vision of what life truly is all about. It brings us a grand step closer to answering some of those big questions that we have been asking ourselves from the very beginning of our time. Who are we and why are we here? What is life all about? The value of this simple realization can not be overstated, especially in the light of the many challenges that we collectively are facing at this time. And yet, as true as all of this is, I believe there to be “one more” . . . the self.

The paradox, I believe, is that we are all one . . . one in our connections to all others but also one in the connections to our vast individuality. If you will, it’s like the macro and the micro; truth and infinity travels in both directions. If our differences are just an illusion, which I do think in many senses is true, then why does such an illusion exist? Time, space, even physical existence can be said in a manner to be an illusion and yet the experience of life provides us with these as a reality. These “illusions” are some of the very basic tools that divine creation has supplied us with . . . to teach us and provide us with the ability to learn. The depth, the experience, the spiritual value of seeing the inner self is of equal importance as seeing the outer self. Neither view should be discarded lest only half a picture be understood.

Our existence, for now at least, is in an epoch of duality. We are individuals . . . individuals as part of one. I think the key here is achieving some balance of our understanding. The selfish and the selfless . . . neither side attributes full value to the whole, but don’t confuse this balance with morality. Balance is a fine concept in many applications, but leads to stagnation in others. Movement . . . progress needs to be continuous. A balance of good and evil creates an illuminist concept of neutrality that is not at all what I’m suggesting here. What I am suggesting is a balance between the concepts and realities of we as individuals and we as one. Ultimately, If you think about it, such a balance serves well to both sides. For the spiritual benefit of realizing that we are all one, we must first realize it as individuals. For the spiritual benefit of realizing the true vastness of our individuality, we must realize the importance of that individuality in the service of all. Within duality we each have the power of our freewills. We have personal responsibility as well as responsibility towards the whole to wield our thoughts and actions and decisions as moral creators. You are not responsible for my decisions, those decisions are the right and freedom of my own will. I am not responsible for your actions, they are the product of your freewill. We can try to convince each other one way or the other, but ultimately the choice made is due to the individual. What we are responsible for is how our freewills effect the whole.

It would be my guess, and my hope, that anyone who is reading this article probably has essentially the same motive . . . a desire to create a better world . . . a desire for a world that that is how it really should be. We share a vision of a reality that is one of peace, health, and prosperity for you, me, and everyone else as well. We share a desire to find and to face truth, to cease the seemingly perpetual cycle of human tragedy that has for far too long plagued our history, and to live in a world of love and compassion. It is a cause most noble, most worthy of our efforts, and one I must believe can be achievable. For one . . . for all . . . may our futures finally shine!

I have just written a new book called "Inner-Tech" which can be found at http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/59984. Here's a short description: "From mental conception to the birth of a new generation, it follows the adventures and experiences in the memory of a being known simply as Sojourn. He embarks on a quest of questions and answers upon awakening to a desperate message given by a mysteriously ancient and alien library. To succeed he must bring all of his wits and will to the war of good against evil before existence itself is lost."

Skimming the Surface of Life

How I wish that I was a great composer, or had a voice that could sing my heart without cracking on notes or falling from the strong emotions I would try to convey. If I was an artist or a poet, maybe I could somehow touch others souls that they could know of my sincerity. What I’m talking about here is the depth of life; those powerful meanings that need to be felt to be understood and not just simply explained. It takes far more than two-dimensional letters strung into words and lined into prose to express this depth, and yet nonetheless I’ll try. It is about connecting to a new and broader dimension of reality . . . a higher dimension and a dimension that largely lays dormant within most of us already. But, so long as so many continue to just skim the surface of understanding who and what we are, and why we are here, we will forever find ourselves stumbling over the same stones that have held humanity down from reaching its potential throughout history . . . a potential that should have otherwise long been achieved.

We have had untold thousands of years to practice; let us give all we can to finally make now the time of achievement. Make now the time when truth can be wholly faced . . . be pursued within our minds and hearts, without fear, to at long last discover the greatness within. It is, in many ways, just a decision away once we allow ourselves to see beyond the surface and into the essence of what really exists.

The complexities of communication, I believe, are an important piece of the ‘grand puzzle’ for us to figure out. I think that, in part, this new and higher dimension is about a new and higher communication . . . a communication that imparts more than intellectual concepts alone. It should also transfer feeling. By the word ‘feeling’ here, I do not refer to a simple signifier of mood, rather as hosts of greater meaning. It is like the example of trying to describe a color. No intellectualism or facts can truly capture the appearance, and more so the qualities, of say, blue. The best it can do is to serve only as a representation. To fully comprehend there must first be a connection that is indescribable, yet is actually the medium of description itself. Exchanging this advanced communication with others is where the tricky task is, and is as well my ongoing attempt.

The heart of the subject here is that connection, that comprehension, that feeling of a powerful and ultimate source that is the fabric of existence in all of its forms. God, divinity, the cosmos . . . title it to what suits you but realize that it is beyond any personification or advanced formula or system. Hold back any preconceived notions given to you by religion or science or social culture to take a new and clearer look. If, then, you find yourself returning to such perspectives by the very depths of your being, then by all means do so and I wish you well. If, on the other hand, you gain for yourself a sense that there is something more then you will have started yourself on a quest which makes roads connect into all, even the most subtle, aspects of the human experience.

The miracles of our daily lives can shine brighter than any light, and the pervasive evils and ignorance in our world can be known for what they truly are . . . an absurdity, an insanity . . . a weak and foolish thing disguised in mass that makes it appear as much more than it is. And, more importantly, you can discover that our challenges can be overcome. So much the mincing of a grand entirety, it can be awakened to a reformation . . . an awareness that the key is in our reclamation of the inherent power of our individuality in concert with the bond to true divinity. We are multidimensional beings, and so must come aware of it. The depths of who we are, why we are here, and what we shall have ourselves become is not to be feared or shelved in an attitude of apathy. Joy can be partnered with on-going achievement . . . achievement being the richness of our spirits and the broadening of our mental horizons.

Break the locks of fear, ego, and automated reactions that contain reality for us in a house without windows. The comforts of old paradigms need reevaluation that their pains may be removed. The cleansing of thought and honesty can, in union with sincere feeling of love, bond you to a greater communication that narrates to you a human experience that lives far deeper than the surface of any appearances.

Revolution of Humanity

A dictionary might define humanity as a state of being compassionate towards others, or it might simply state it as of being human . . . all of mankind. A revolution might be stated as a great change, or the completion of a circular orbit. Such words put together might seem daunting, as if they were something so large that you could never truly be a part of it, but don’t let apathy dissuade you. It all starts with a simple feeling that things could be better. A Revolution of Humanity can be within you . . . your outlook, your heart, your soul, and it isn’t some overwhelming task that we are all too busy to do. Why do people bicker? Why do people fear? Why do all the traumas and the dramas, of the big and the small, wear a claim to the control of our daily lives? Our reactions, our relationships, our outlooks and attitudes follow the dictates of a subtle program concocted by the repetitious images of conflict and pettiness and pain trapped deep within our psyches. Well, in my passionate sincerity, I believe it doesn’t have to be so . . . there is better way!

There are plenty of big problems out there, but in the essence that hides behind the costumes of currency or corruption or social culture, there is an element that is always there. It is a crumbled foundation of fear-based reality that imposes itself by stealthily moving into the center of our lives and experiences. The media blares so many distractions, and tries to sculpt for us a model of who it says we should be. Change must be desired and given effort, for in the environment that is sold us, to not pursue change would be the catch of a current that washes us downstream to a life that forever feels lacking and insecure. You must find within yourself a determination to resist that current, and guide yourself to better waters. Tap your potential and learn the strength of your individuality, for where one goes still will another, and when the mass mirrors, the river can be diverted to a far better world and a new foundation of humanity, not fear.

Let life become as positive as we are able to make it. Forget the false divisions that label us as something other than what we all . . . all of us as sentient beings . . . truly is. We are human, and to be human is to be compassionate while upholding with strength those inalienable rights that no authority can remove, only infringe. We have the right, and more so the duty, to live by the golden rule of treating others as you would want them to treat you. It is an ideal to be defended, preserved, and practiced within our own homes, on our streets, and with all of our acquaintances.

Make humanity a common respect, a thoughtful reason to all of the world, and a tender and mature love to the family of our species. Let unity be for peace not divisions, for that is a strength and an action that can fundamentally change worlds.

Who are we going to be? It can start when you ask that very question. Are we to be slaves to our hurt and hardships or will we have our freedom? Are we to be fools or will we seek wisdom? There must be a direction and we all must make our choices about it. No one else should be handed the responsibility to decide that for you. We need to learn to be sovereigns of our own souls and servants for the goodness of humanity; empowered by our understanding and proud of our progress. Our mistakes can be admitted, to then be cleansed and transformed into qualities by learning from them. Our cleansing can then enter us to a new and better epoch where the stream flows in a spiritual progression.

Who do you want to be? I wish, I urge, I ask you to answer it thoughtfully. Make an ideal not of an actor but instead of an idea . . . an idea that pain and fear can be healed. These wounds to the spirit can be willed away, and leave in their passing a true human of humanity. As an individual and as a part of the whole, make your spiritual evolution a spiritual revolution; a great change in the very fabric of your being. Together we stand and divided we fall . . . so bring yourself together, and let us bring each other together. We can make a stand as sovereigns of our souls in the light of humanity, and thus earn our peace in a better and more compassionate world.
